CDW Recycling process

Reception of Construction and Demolition Waste, from which are removed plastics, wood and insulation materials. The remaining mixture is compounded by concrete, bricks, mortars and cement. This goes for further processing.

The CDW mixture is going through combination of crushing and sieving steps, so that they can be fragmented into smaller pieces.

The additional process of magnets is implemented in order to remove any kind of ferrous material. After this the fragmented parts can be measured used for the underground filling of roads and industrial buildings, however depending on obtained granulometry.

The hammer milling and sieving process serves to obtain smaller parts, that can be used for geopolymer production. The fragmented parts must be very fine reaching dimension between 0.3 mm and 0.7 mm, where the average is 0.4-0.5 mm. The still remaining larger fraction goes to market and is used as cement/concrete filling or for hydraulic mortars.

Results with brick dust, crushed recycled concrete aggregates, mortar waste and glass waste show that inorganic CDW can effectively act as nearly inert fillers in geopolymers yielding similar properties as could be obtained with other mineral inert fillers commonly used with geopolymers allowing to recycle inorganic CDW of different types with contents at least 40-50% by weight.
Results also prove the ability to incorporate wood wool or wood chips/dust into geopolymers to yield geopolymer bonded wood panels similar to cement bonded wood panels. Based on these facts in the project different geopolymer panels will be developed: prefabricated ETICs panels and fa-çade cladding tiles for building envelope insulation and radiating wall and ceiling panels for in-door heating/cooling.

After obtaining positive results at laboratory site and demonstration site, the production of ETICs, radiating walls and cladding panels can start.

Introduction of innovative solutions into the market. These products will go beyond the state-of -the-art and are feasible to apply in building , obtaining energy efficient parameters.
